Analysis of diffusion characteristics of wound healing drugs is clinically significant for the development of polymeric drug delivery systems. Both the natural and synthetic therapeutic agents are being commonly utilized for the healing of different types of wounds. Hydrogels are being increasingly employed as sustained release matrices as they provide the flexibility to tune their physical, chemical and mechanical properties. In this work, an attempt has been made to understand the diffusion characteristics of the natural and synthetic therapeutic agents in hydrogel matrices of different pore sizes using an in silico approach. Two different theories are explored for their use in drug delivery applications and the simulation outcomes are validated using the experimental data available in the existing literature. In this talk, the objectives and significant results of the study will be discussed in detail.
