The resolution of the India-China boundary dispute has remained elusive and unsettled. This research is focused on deconstructing the dispute from its inception from the period of mid 19th century to mid 20th century. Specifically, this proposed research focuses on the Western sector of the dispute involving Indias Ladakh and the region of Aksai Chin. The study on the Western sector has gained added relevance in the contemporary field of research study given the recent developments in India-China relations. The proposed research helps to analyze the ideational shifts among different state actors within the time period of mid 19th to mid 20th century, re-examine Cartographic and other declassified evidences from either side, which are inconsistent with the current status of claims pertaining to the Line of Actual Control between India and China.
