Shallow water sloshing wave systems under the effects of excitation amplitude and dispersion parameter are investigated by experiments. Experimental observation shows that for relatively large excitation amplitudes, the travelling hydraulic jumps emerge around resonance region. The main focus is to quantify the frequency bound of hydraulic jumps, for a range of dispersion parameters and excitation amplitudes. The measured experimental bounds are being compared with the theoretical bounds of hydraulic jumps.
From experimental observation, a simple mathematical model is proposed using sloshing and slamming analogy. Nonlinear Tuned Liquid Damper (TLD) is developed based on the mathematical model. With proposed nonlinear TLDs, the response control of Single Degree of Freedom (SDOF) system is investigated. The study also examines the surge response control of Floating Production Storage Offloading (FPSO) vessel with nonlinear TLDs.
