Shaped light is used in a variety of applications. It has been standard practice to use spatial light modulators to shape and manipulate light. While they have the advantage of tunability, they are relatively bulky and expensive. Diffractive optics has been an attractive alternative for many decades but in the recent past, meta-optics offer another means to achieve beam manipulation. In this talk, we will look at what we mean by shrinking optics and how they can carry out tasks not always possible with conventional optics. Optics may be getting smaller and smaller but the potential these new elements have is infinite!
