The proposed work is to use optical diagnostics to understand the transient phenomena of flame stabilization and propagation in supersonic combustion. Air is vitiated using hydrogen-air combustion to 1300 K and 8 bar. The high enthalpy air is expanded to Mach number of 2.5 through a rectangular nozzle. Hydrogen fuel is injected transversely through a strut, and burnt at supersonic speeds. Schlieren, OH PLIF, OH chemiluminescence, TDLAS are few of the proposed diagnostics to be done on the transparent supersonic combustor. The compressible flow properties, transport properties and the combustion properties will be analysed to understand flame stabilization in supersonic combustion.
