Impinging air jets are commonly employed for intense cooling of the leading edge of a gas turbine vane. The present experimental and computational investigations aim at further enhancing the heat transfer at the concave leading edge and arriving at an optimal configuration. For this purpose the attempts made are three fold: one, suggesting a novel equilaterally staggered configuration for jet impingement; two, conducting experiments and computational investigations to generate data for various geometric configurations with various curvature ratios, diameter and location of protrusions, gap ratio, diameter of jet; and three arriving at an optimized geometric configuration for maximum cooling. The investigations consist of lampblack visualization, anemometry, heat transfer experiment, numerical simulations and ANN.
