Purpose:

While the adoption of health-analytics (HA) is expanding, not every healthcare organization understands the factors impacting their readiness for the same. An assessment of their readiness helps organizations guide their HA strategy and the realization of the business value. Past research has not included a comprehensive set of readiness-factors and assessment methods. Our study objective is to design artifacts to assess the HA readiness of hospitals.
Real Money Rummy Methodology: Our information-systems (IS) theory and methodology, entail the iterative Elaborated Action Design Real Money Rummy (EADR) method, combined with cross-sectional field studies involving fourteen healthcare organizations and twenty-seven participants. We determine factors and leverage multi-criteria decision-making techniques to assess HA readiness.
Results/Findings: The artifacts emerging from our research include: a) a map of readiness factors, b) methodologies leveraging multi-criteria decision-making techniques that assess the readiness levels on the factors, varying levels of factor-importance, and inter-factor relationships and c) an instantiated system. The in-situ evaluation shows how these artifacts can provide insights and strategic direction to an organization through collective knowledge from stakeholders.
Originality/Value: Apart from validating past research on the factors influencing HA readiness, our study finds new ones and provide insights into them. Our methods yield a HA readiness-assessment approach that is well-rounded and offers practical insights to hospitals.
