Details

The ability to access a single enantiomer of a molecule is a necessity in many industries. In this aspect, development of new methods for the construction of chiral molecules in its optically active form is an evergreen interest in the synthetic community. Recently, transition metal catalysed C-H bond activation has emerged as one of the most powerful methods to construct desired chiral molecules. Over the past two decades, the metal-catalysed asymmetric C-H bond functionalization of organic molecules under chelation assistance has gained significant interests among organic researchers, employing chiral ligands, such as chiral carboxylic acid, phosphines, cyclopentadienes, etc. In this seminar, a historical overview on the development of various chiral cyclopentadienyl ligand (CpX), and their successful application in functionalization of challenging C–H bonds and beyond, giving access to an extensive catalogue of valuable chiral molecules will be discussed.[1,2] A critical comparison of the existing ligand families, their design, synthesis, and complexation to different metals will also be presented.[3,4] Afterwards, our hypothesis and research objectives will be proposed.
