Design & Optimization of the aerospace vehicle is a complex multidisciplinary process that involves the joint effort of engineers from various disciplines. From structural point of view majority of the aerospace vehicle designs are Semi- Monocoque in nature which is quite efficient to transfer the load. However, optimizing Semi- Monocoque is quite challenging. In the past several mathematical programmes had been developed in-house for optimization, which uses traditional optimization techniques as well as Finite element methods (FEM). However, evolution of population-based meta-heuristic techniques like GA, ANN & ML is gaining popularity among aircraft designers for tradeoff study between the Weight, Cost and time.
The most of the literature work are based upon individual component level study, but when it comes for optimizing the design process for the entire assembly which consists several of individual components has not got enough attention by the researchers. For instant Ribs, Spars of an aircraft wing is optimized individually but optimizing the entire wing as a Semi- Monocoque structure consisting no of ribs, skin and spars with different constraints and loading conditions are not attempted using evolutionary techniques. Hence it is considered as a potential area of research, which will reduce the design cycle time and cost as well as opens up the window for the ML/DL application into the design decision making.
