Dynamics of premixed swirling flames has been a topic of extensive research especially in the past two decades with various mechanisms suggested to promote and sustain thermo-acoustic instabilities. However, not much focus was given in the literature to partially premixed swirling flames especially at engine relevant conditions. Modelling of such flames require experimental data which are difficult to obtain because of the complexity associated with experiments and higher running cost. This presentation focuses on the lacunas in the literature related to dynamics of partially premixed swirling flames along with the design of optically accessible high pressure experimental setup and the post processing technique adopted to study the spatio-temporal behaviour of the inhomogeneous flame
