We share our journey on the design of Hand Exoskeletons from Felix to
F-EL-EX at the CARS Lab. We start with a prologue on the structural
inference of complex tendinous systems, especially the hand extensor
mechanism, as a network of strings. Then, we introduce the work by Felix on a three-finger exoskeleton for cooperative translation and rotation tasks. We discuss the design modifications performed by Shyam and his second design on another three-finger exoskeleton with index and middle fingers coupled, with a control algorithm implemented by Anirban. We show the soft glove design by Ajay and Vishal and their implementation of a compact differential mechanism. We finally conclude with F-EL-EX, Vitthal’s design of Fingertip to ELbow EXoskeleton based on optimized Flexor Tendon Pulley Systems (TPS) and a sliding pulley-based differential mechanism.
