Introduction: Non-profit Organizations (NPOs) are instrumental in advancing the socio-economic empowerment of individuals, especially in developing nations where government capacity and revenue are limited. NPOs face multifarious challenges in addressing diverse needs in developing countries like India. The plight of organizational capacity is given less importance while NPOs focus on addressing complex service delivery challenges. In literature, Organisational Capacity is defined as the degree to which an organization can generate desired change and accomplish goals through internal and external resources.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the contribution of Tangible resource (TR), Intangible resource (IR), and dynamic capabilities on Organizational Performance in the Non-profit Sector.
Design/methodology/approach: Exploratory sequential design will be used to conduct the study with Indian Non-Profit Managers—qualitative study involving semi-structured interviews and Quantitative study involving Survey Questions. Thematic Analysis for Qualitative Real Money Rummy and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) will be employed to analyse the quantitative data, allowing for examining complex relationships between variables and testing mediation effects.
Originality/value: Most empirical resource-based view (RBV) research concentrates on for-profit organizations, and very little is known about results outside of this domain. This study employs Indian NPOs to assess the importance of TR, IR, and dynamic capabilities on organizational performance. Second, in the RBV literature, limited research tests the contribution of capabilities to firm success after simultaneously accounting for the effects of other resources (namely, TR and IR) available to the firm. Finally, this research offers practical contributions to NPO Professionals, focusing on building tangible and intangible resources and dynamic capabilities. This has practical implications for enhancing the overall effectiveness and sustainability of NPOs.
