Logistics in India is a huge market of about US$ 360 billion. It is also the least computer or
digitally enabled market. A natural consequence of this is the large hidden inefficiencies in
the logistics industry. This opens up huge opportunities for innovation and induction of new
technologies into this industry segment and achieve significant gains by improving
efficiency.
There have been many failed attempts and some successful attempts at solving some
category of problems. Before one makes any attempt to tackle any problem in this industry
one has to understand the working of the industry, the business landscape, and the open
problems, so that they can take an educated step knowing the ground realities, and get
their hand on a realistic and not theoretical problem they wish to solve.
This talk is aimed at introducing the industry working, the business landscape, the changes
happening in the environment, and the potential open problems to tackle.
These are learnings of the speaker who was the cofounder of “Mera Transport” with a
hands on experience in the industry in trying to build an UBER like platform for Freight and
connect the Shippers, Transporters, Agents and all in the Eco-system.
The developed countries have made remarkable progress in this field and it is absolutely
essential for India to streamline its logistics if it intends to be the manufacturing hub, or
even for its internal supply chain of essential goods.
